Carers Matter Norfolk Advice Line offers emotional support, listening and practical information. Just talking to an adviser may help you feel less alone. All of our advisers and trained and most of them have personal experience of caring for someone. You can talk either on the phone or chat online with an adviser.

  • The Advice Line can also make a referral through to Carers Matter Norfolk’s Counselling Service. This service can offer you mental & emotional health and wellbeing support, advice and ways of identifying coping strategies.
  • The Pod is an online community of carers. Chat with other carers, health professionals and people who wish to help, 24 hours a day. This can be accessed via this website.

Both services can be contacted via our Freephone number 0800 083 1148 or you can chat live online with a Family Carer Adviser via this website.

SANE provides emotional support and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including families, friends and carers. They run a national out-of-hours mental health helpline, a non-emergency email and text support service and an online forum.  The Helpline can be contacted for free, between 4.30 – 10.30pm, every day of the year on 0300 304 7000 and you can find out more about the online forum and text support service at www.sane.org.uk.

The Samaritans provide 24 hour emotional support to anybody experiencing distress, despair or suicidal feelings. You can also go to a local branch to talk to someone face to face if you need to. The Silver Line operates a 24 hour, confidential, free helpline for older people (over 55) across the UK. They also offer telephone and letter friendship schemes where they match volunteers with older people based on their interests; facilitated group calls; and help to connect people with local services in their area. Norwich & Central Norfolk Mind Telephone Support Line is there to provide emotional support, practical person-centred guidance and a listening service for those living with mental health problems and their carers. It is open from 4pm until midnight, Monday to Friday, and 10am until midnight at weekends.

The support line is available to those are in contact currently with either an NSFT team or the Wellbeing service or has been receiving support from them in them in the past 12 months. It is also available to those supporting someone who is or has been receiving support from NSFT or Wellbeing.

Unfortunately in the Gt Yarmouth and Waveney area the service is only available to those using the Wellbeing service, other NSFT service users should contact their care co-ordinator regarding arrangements for telephone support.  To contact the Mind Telephone Support Line call free on 0808 8020 288.

Wellbeing Norfolk & Waveney provides a range of support for people with common mental health and emotional issues, such as low mood, depression or stress. They will work with you to help you make the necessary changes to improve your wellbeing and quality of life.  Their services are free and are available to people aged 16 and over living in Norfolk & Waveney. CarersUK have a listening service and online forum available to carers throughout the UK. The listening service is currently available on a Monday and Tuesday 9am until 7pm. To contact Carers UK call free on 0808 808 7777 or go to www.carersuk.org to find out more about their chat room.
