Over 50 carers from West Norfolk took part in mindfulness exercises, had massages, listened to music and spend time practising self-care as part of a free wellbeing event for Carers yesterday (Tuesday, May 21st).
The We Care Because You Care event, organised by Carers Voice Norfolk and Waveney, with additional funding from the National Lottery encouraged carers to take time out from their caring responsibilities for their own health and wellbeing. The event also enabled carers to ask questions about Carers Matter Norfolk, Carers Voice Norfolk and Waveney and to share their views on what local support services they would like.
The event was designed as a thank you for carers and to encourage them to take time out of their caring responsibilities and look after their own health and wellbeing. Katie Clark, a carer from Kings Lynn was one of the guests enjoying the free event and said ‘Today has been fantastic, I really didn’t realise how many different therapies there are on offer! It is nice to be pampered and get time to actually relax.’
Catherine Farnham, a young carer added ‘The best bit about today was the number of people who came, and the community really came together, it was fantastic! It’s really like a family here at Carers Matter Norfolk, and I really like that.’
Carers Voice & Co-Production Facilitator, Laura Middleton said, ‘Unpaid carers spend so much time looking after other people that they rarely get the time to pay attention to their own needs and wellbeing or to treat themselves. We want to acknowledge what they do for their families and the local community, so this event was about giving something back. It was a chance to relax and have a break.’
The event was funded by The National Lottery and Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney. A second We Care Because You Care event will take place in Cromer on Monday 3rd June at the Parish Hall, 65 Church St, Cromer NR27 9HH. Tickets are FREE but places are limited.
