Hourglass (formerly Action on Elder Abuse) is a specialist organisation with a growing number of staff in all four nations of the United Kingdom. They also provide some limited support within Ireland.

One in six older people are victims of abuse. That’s over 16% of our mothers, fathers, uncles, aunties, grannies, grandads, friends and neighbours.

The Hourglass mission is simple: end the harm, abuse and exploitation of older people in the UK. Unlike other ‘older people’s organisations’, they focus exclusively on the issue of elder abuse, not as one issue among many, but as a single focus to our work. For this reason they have extensive expertise that is not available from any other charity or agency.

One key way in which they address elder abuse is through their unique confidential freephone helpline, which provides information, advice and support to victims and others who are concerned about or have witnessed abuse, neglect or financial exploitation.
