Message in a Bottle and Message in a Wallet
Contact details
The long-established Lion’s Message in a Bottle scheme is a simple idea designed to encourage people to keep their personal and medical details on a standard form and in a common location – the fridge.
The scheme can benefit anyone as it will save the emergency services valuable time identifying you and your emergency contacts. By telling whether you have special medication or allergies or not, it is a potential lifesaver and provides peace of mind to users and their families and friends.
About the pack
The Message in a Bottle pack comprises of a bottle, a form and two stickers.
Bottles are free of charge. They are usually stocked in local chemists or doctor’s surgeries. Local charities such as Age UK and carers’ charities often have a supply too. Neighbourhood Watch groups, council offices, housing associations, and many other places also have the bottles.
You can also request a bottle from the Lions Club website.
How to use the pack
- Complete the details on the form.
- Put the form into the bottle and place in the door compartment of your fridge.
- Place a sticker on the INSIDE of the glass of your front door. This alerts the emergency services to look for the bottle in the event of being called to your home.
- Place the second sticker on your fridge door.
- Should you need to update the information on the form, you can download and print a new form from the Lions Club website.
Message in a Wallet
The Message in a Wallet form contains the same information as the Message in a Bottle scheme but in a smaller, credit card size format. It can easily be placed in your wallet, purse or handbag so the information is readily available in case you need urgent medical treatment away from home.
