A Carers Week conference with sessions for both carers and hospital professionals is to be held on Wednesday 9 June. And the sessions will be in line with the theme of Carers Week – making caring visible and valued.
From 10am – 12pm there will be the session for carers to hear about ongoing work to support carers and to have their voices heard. This will include sessions with information on carers passports and digital inclusion, discussion and feedback, and a carers voice session with carers sharing their experiences.
From 1-3pm there will be a session for hospital staff, including carer awareness training delivered by Kerrie Campbell and Belinda Jones from Caring Together, in partnership with Carers Matter Norfolk. Carers and healthcare colleagues are welcome to attend both sessions.
Kerrie Campbell, Caring Together’s community engagement manager for Carers Matter Norfolk said, “We are looking forward to working with the acute hospitals across Norfolk and Waveney to continue to raise awareness of young and adult carers within healthcare settings.”
Amrita Kulkarni, head of patient experience at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals, said, “We are keen on continuing our journey in improving carers experience of using the hospital services across Norfolk and Waveney.
“The conference sessions are aimed at hearing more from carers and their experiences, showcasing the work undertaken so far to improve carer experience, the improvements we still need to make; raising awareness amongst healthcare professionals about young and adult carers and how to support their needs better within healthcare settings.
“We recognise there is lots more to do, the conference is our first step to approaching improving support for carers more collaboratively in Norfolk and Waveney.”
The conference will provide opportunity for carers and healthcare colleagues to come together, share experiences and develop further understanding of how carers can be best supported when accessing the hospitals’ services.
