Are you a young adult carer thinking about your next steps in education and higher educational options? Finding out about what to expect, the opportunities available to you and and how you can manage some of the challenges you might face is really valuable. Even if you are undecided about whether university is for you it is good to find out more.

Online ‘Take Your Place’ workshops are being run by the University of East Anglia (UEA), to help young adult carers find out more about higher education. The next workshop on Wednesday 26 May is a student life workshop planned with a young adult carer who is currently studying at university.

This is a good opportunity for young adult carers to come along and take part, there is no pressure to turn cameras and microphones on and it is a totally relaxed atmosphere.

More workshops are also being held.

There are five workshops over the course of five weeks, providing free and impartial information about higher education. They will support young adult carers to access information to help with decisions about the future, with caring responsibilities in mind.

The sessions are aimed at students who are studying or have finished Level 3 courses at sixth form or college.

Across the five weeks, you will meet Tania, Liz and student ambassadors for talks on:

  • Choosing a university and a course
  • Student finance and budgeting
  • Student life
  • Study skills
  • Wellbeing and support

Contact Liz on includingme@uea.ac.uk or tania at tania@takeyourplace.ac.uk to find out more or to talk through how you can make the most of these sessions.
